Vandal Track and Field Travel to Last Meets of the Regular Season

MOSCOW, Idaho – Outdoor track action resumes this weekend as the Vandals compete in the last two meets of the regular season. Idaho distance runners will travel on Friday to compete in the Oregon State High Performance Meet in Corvallis. Sprinters and field members will travel down to Tucson, Ariz. to compete in the Arizona Desert Heat Classic hosted by the University of Arizona.   

OSU High Performance Meet

Idaho will compete against other Big Sky teams such as Eastern Washington and Portland State as well as competition from Washington State, Hawaii, and Oregon State. 

The fierce competition at the OSU High Performance Meet will feature several heats throughout the day as well with open and invitational heats. The invitational heats are comprised of professional athletes and top-tier collegiate athletes. 13 Vandals have earned a spot in the invitational heats in their respective events. 

Field events kick off the meet on Friday at 10 a.m. with the men's discus throw. Running events will fire off at 5:30 p.m. with the men's 1500m. On Saturday, the meet will resume with the men's shot put at noon and the men's 800m at 1:15 p.m.

27 Vandals will compete throughout the two-day event with 17 competing in at least two events. 

As of this week, four Vandals are ranked top-five in the Big Sky. In the men's field events, Noah Culbertson will compete in the shot put, where he is currently second in the Big Sky with a mark of 17.71m. 

In men's running events, Lorenz Hermann will compete in the 800m, where he is currently first in the Big Sky with a time of 3:41.93. His fellow team members Zac Bright and Tim Stevens will also be in the same race. Bright is currently ranking third in the Big Sky with a time of 1:50.29 and Stevens is currently ranking fifth in the Big Sky with a time of 1:52.10. Herrmann will also try and surpass his Big Sky ranking of fourth in the 1500m where his time is 3:41.93.

Arizona Desert Heat Classic

30 team members will compete in Tucson where they will face tough competition on Saturday in the one-day event. The Vandals will see competition from BYU, Oregon, Texas A&M, UNLV, and fellow Big Sky competitor North Arizona. The day will start at noon with the women's hammer throw and the women's 4x100 relay will kick off the running events at 5:50 p.m. 

On Saturday, seven Vandals will compete to remain in the rankings in the Big Sky. In the running events, Deyondre Davis will compete in the 400m hurdles where he is currently at the top in the Big Sky with a time of 52.55. Spencer Barrera will compete in the 400m where he is currently ranking third in the Big Sky with a time of 47.78. 

On the women's side, Prabhasha Wickramaraachchi will compete in the 400m hurdles where she is currently ranking fourth in the Big Sky with a time of 1:02.36. 

In field events, Mia Sylvester will defend her top ranking in the Big Sky with a mark of 15.64m. Simone Fedel will compete in the triple jump where he is currently ranking third in the Big Sky with a mark of 15.18m. Justyn Rogers will compete in the long jump where he is currently ranking fourth in the Big Sky with a mark of 7.40m. In the high jump, Joseph Ruddell will compete and try and surpass his mark of 2.07m where he is currently ranking third in the Big Sky.
