MOSCOW, Idaho – The Vandal track and field team will travel to Spokane this Friday for the Whitworth Peace Meet at Whitworth University.
The Vandals will face many familiar faces from the pacific northwest region. Schools such as Washington State, Gonzaga, Eastern Washington, Eastern Oregon, Montana Western and College of Southern Idaho will be in attendance.
The one-day event will start with field events at noon with women's discus. The Vandals' first running event will be the men's 3000m steeplechase at 3:10 p.m. 39 Vandals will compete, with 16 competing in at least two events. Nine Vandals competing this weekend are ranked top-10 in the Big Sky.
On the women's side
Hannah Russell and
Leah Holmgren are ranked fifth and seventh in the Big Sky in the 800m with times of 2:13.95 and 2:15.48.
Mia Sylvester reigns in first place in the shot put with a distance of 15.64m. Sylvester also ranks eighth in the discus with a distance of 42.46m.
Tayler LyDay will compete in the long jump and triple jump where she is ranked eighth in the long jump with a distance of 5.50m and ranked fifth in the triple jump with a distance of 11.73m.
On the men's side,
Joseph Ruddell will compete in the high jump where he is ranked second in the Big Sky with a distance of 2.07m. In the triple jump,
Simone Fedel and
Justyn Rogers are ranked sixth and ninth, respectively. Fedel enters the meet with a distance of 14.01m and Rogers with a distance of 13.56m.
Noah Culbertson ranks second in the Big Sky with a distance of 17.34m in the shot put and
Nathyn Maller ranks 10
th with a distance of 60.04m in the javelin throw.
The Vandals aim to improve this weekend with new personal bests and climb the rankings in the Big Sky
