Vandals WBB Sign Two International Students to 23-24 Squad

Ana PaulaAna Paula de Oliveira Dias | 5'5" | Guard | São Paulo, Brazil

Ana Oliveira will join the Vandals as a true freshman in the upcoming fall season. Oliveira has spent her youth years playing for the Brazilian National Team in the FIBA Americas Championships as well as her club team in Santo André.

"Ana is an extremely athletic guard who will provide great energy for us on both ends of the floor," said Coach Eighmey. "We are excited about her explosiveness with the ball and her ability to finish tough shots around the rim. She is also a lockdown defender whose tenacity and athleticism allow her to get up and pressure guards throughout the game. We can't wait to see her in black and gold!"

At the 2022 FIBA U18 Americas Championship, Oliveira averaged 11.8 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game. On the Brazilian National Team, Oliveira has been part of teams that participated in international championships. At the U15 level, Oliveira's team earned bronze in the South American Championships. At the U18 level, her team was crowned champions at the South American Championships and earned fourth at the Copa American Championships where Oliveira earned an All-Star honor.

At the club level, Oliveira helped lead her team to many championship matches. At the U13 level, her team took second place. The team returned and won the championship in back-to-back years at the U14 and U15 levels. In her last season, the team once again reached the championship match and took home second place. Oliveira earned many MVP honors during her youth career.

The Brazilian native attended high school in Santo André.

Amalie LangerAmalie Langer | 5'9" | Guard | University of San Francisco | Rungsted, Copenhagen, Denmark

Amalie Langer joins the Vandals after four seasons at the University of San Francisco. The graduate student has one year of eligibility remaining to compete for the Vandals.

"Amalie is a highly experienced guard who will bring an incredible level of toughness and competitiveness to our team each and every day," said Coach Eighmey. "She wreaks havoc on the defensive end of the floor with the way she uses her length and takes good angles. She's an elite 3pt shooter (career 38%) and a great cutter and mover without the ball. Pair her high motor with her high basketball IQ and Vandal fans are going to like what they see from her in ICCU Arena."

At USF, Langer was a starter on teams that went to back-to-back WNITs. In her final season, she played in 23 games, averaging 13.1 minutes per game as she dealt with an injury.

As a redshirt junior, Langer had a standout season starting all 31 games for the Dons. She averaged 23.23 minutes per game and tallied over 700 minutes in the season. Langer ended the season with 195 points, averaging 6.3 PPG, shooting 43.4% from the field and 41% from three-point range. Defensively, Langer collected 38 steals. Langer recorded a season-high of 17 points, including five three-pointers versus Gonzaga.

Much like her junior year, Langer played in and started every match for the Dons during her redshirt sophomore season. Langer logged 768 minutes, averaging 28.5 minutes per game. She finished the season with 275 points and ranked third on the team averaging 10.2 PPG. On the offensive side of the ball, Langer was a force to be reckoned with. She shot 46.9% from the field (92-196) and 36.9% from the arc (31-84) and led the team with 55 assists. Langer had 14 games in double figures, including three 20-point games. Langer led the team with 23 points in USF's first-ever WNIT win over Houston, going 8-16 from the field and 6-11 from three-point range.

In her redshirt freshman season, Langer was nursing an injury that caused her to sit out her true freshman year.

The Rungsted, Denmark native was an all-star player and national champion at multiple levels in her home country. She was a fixture in the starting lineup for Denmark since her U14 days and was named captain for the U20 national team. With Denmark, she won gold at the national championship at the U14, U16, and U19 levels. Langer was twice named the MVP at the Scania Cup and earned four all-star honors.
