MOSCOW, Idaho -- Idaho Swim and Dive (2-1) returns home this weekend to take on Seattle University (0-2) for a dual meet on Saturday, Nov. 9 at 10 a.m. PT in the UI Swim Center.
SOPHOMORE PHENOM
Ginger Kiefer earned her second WAC Swimmer of the Week honor after posting three individual victories at Northern Arizona last weekend.
Kiefer clocked in three WAC best times in the 100 backstroke (54.55), 200 backstroke (2:00.10), and 200 IM (2:03.34) to lead the Vandals. Kiefer posted a pool record in the 200 IM and fell just .03 seconds shy of posting another pool record in the 200 back.
All three of Kiefer's times rank first in the conference standings. Kiefer was also part of the winning 200-medley relay team who finished with a time of 1:42.64.
The sophomore phenom has eight individual wins, two relay victories, and an MPSF 5k Open Water title through only three meets.
LAST TIME OUT
The Vandals are coming off a 167-133 loss against the WAC defending champs, Northern Arizona. Despite the loss, Idaho posted seven wins, three runner-up finishes and three top results from Kiefer.
Idaho recorded its first victory of the meet right off the blocks, as the 200 medley relay of Kiefer,
Rylie Moxham,
Grace Ruble, and
Ella Haskins hit the wall first with a time of 1:42.64.
Haskins went back-to-back in the 50 and 100 freestyle, finishing first with a time of 23.28 in the 50 free before following it up with another top finish in the 100 (51.22).
The 200 free relay team of
Madelynn Butler, Rubel,
Sydney Heasman, and Haskins rounded out the meet with a pool record time of 1:33.78 to finish out the weekend.
SCOUTING SEATTLE U
The Seattle Redhawks travel to Vandal territory this weekend for a dual meet against Idaho. The Redhawks haven't competed in a meet since Oct. 5th, where Seattle took losses against Grand Canyon University and California Baptist.
This will be the team's 15th meeting, with Idaho sweeping the series between the two. Idaho is 14-0 against the Redhawks during their all-time series.
IN THE WAC
Idaho has a handful of swimmers who rank in the top five of the WAC standings.
Second-year standout
Ginger Kiefer ranks first in three events in the WAC: 100-yard backstroke (54.55), 200-yard backstroke (2.00.10), and the 200-yard IM (2:03.34).
Sophomore
Katy Foley ranks fourth in the 200-yard backstroke (2:03.32) while sophomore swimmer
Isabelle Borke takes the fifth spot in the rankings in the 200-yard freestyle (1:53.15).
Junior
Grace Ruble ranks second in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 56.00. Senior
Ella Haskins ranks in two freestyle events: second in the 100-yard freestyle (51.22) and third in the 50-yard freestyle (23.28).
The women's 200-yard medley relay consisting of Haskins, Kiefer, Moxham, and Ruble sits second in the WAC with a time of 1:42.64. The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Butler, Haskins, Heasman, and Ruble also sit in the second spot with a time of 1:33.78.
NEXT UP
The Vandal divers will head to Flagstaff to compete in the annual Lumberjack Diving Invite. The competition will start on Thursday, Nov. 21, and will wrap up Saturday, Nov. 23.
