Idaho boasts two of the top swimmers in the conference in junior
Ella Haskins and freshman
Ginger Kiefer. Haskins sits top 2 in the WAC rankings in two different events, including first in the 100 free with a conference-best time of 49.90. The freestyle specialist also holds the second-fastest time in the 50 free (22.94). Kiefer's name is amongst the top 5 in three events, including the 200 backstroke, 400 IM and 1000 free. She finds herself all alone with the best time in the 400 IM of 4:21.71, while also ranking third in 200 back (1:59.11) and fourth in the 1000 free (10:09.17).
Various Vandals find themselves in a top-10 spot in the WAC rankings in their respective events. Freshman
Sydney Heasman ranks 9th in both the 50 free and 100 free and sophomore
Madelynn Butler is eighth in the 100 fly and 10th in the 50 fly. Second-year Vandal
Grace Ruble boasts the 9th spot in the 100 fly while senior
Zoe Froh holds the 10th fastest time in the 400 IM. Kiefer's name also hits the top 10 in the 500 free, 200 fly, 200 IM and 100 back while Haskins also ranks 9th in the 100 back.
Hailey Faith and
Emily Mack lead the group of divers for Idaho. Faith holds a season-best score of 280.80 in the 3-meter and 256.8 in the 1-meter against Northern Arizona (10/20). Mack also scored a season best of 296.85 against NAU (10/20) in the 3m and a personal best of 282.45 in the 1m against Grand Canyon (10/7).
After finishing seventh in the 2023 WAC Championships a season ago, the Vandals feel primed for a run at a top 3 spot this season with a core mix of returners and young talented swimmers and divers.
Kiefer Swims Past Renezini in Record Book
Freshman
Ginger Kiefer broke a nine-year-old school record in the 1000-meter freestyle, with the fourth-fastest time in the WAC this season of 10:09.17 against Washington State. The record was formerly held by Christine Renzini, who posted a time of 10:15.57 on Jan. 24, 2015. Kiefer's freshman campaign has been nothing short of amazing as she has posted 15 first-place finishes over eight meets, including breaking two school records. Earlier in the season at the Vandal Invite, she broke the school record in the 500 freestyle with a 4:54.31, passing former Vandal Leah Fisk (4:54.52, 2/23/2017).
Haskins Making a Splash in Year 3
Junior
Ella Haskins made quite a jump from her second to third season in Moscow. The Seattle native set school records in the 50 and 100 freestyle, earned 10 top finishes during the regular season, and posted her first career WAC weekly honor. She recorded a career-best 22.94 in the 50 free versus Washington State to break a previously 10-year-old school record held by Erica Anderson (23.08) while also submitting the second fastest time in the WAC. Haskins followed it up with a program-leading time of 49.90 in the 100 free to top another 10-year-old mark that was held by former WAC Swimmer of the Year, Rachel (Millet) Sewell, and the fastest 100 free time in the conference.
