SPOKANE, Washington - Idaho Track and Field wrapped up their opening meet of the 2024 outdoor season at the Buc Scoring Invite Friday afternoon. Twelve Vandals scored first-place finishes including a new venue record from
Lorenz Herrmann.
Mia Sylvester took home three medals, opening with a second-place finish in the women's hammer throw. The sophomore threw a personal best 52.91m. Sylvester then finished third in the discus throw (39.35m) and third in the shot put (12.92m) on Friday.
Freshman
Loudan Hicks finished third in the men's hammer throw on Friday with a 51.92m mark.
The men's 4x100m relay team opened Friday's action on the track with a first-place finish.
Jemini Archer,
Deyondre Davis,
Jurrian Hering, and
Jon Watkins collectively ran a 41.32.Â
The Vandals swept the men's 1500m podium led by
Lorenz Herrmann who ran a Boppell Track record, 3:46.22 and the seventh fastest time in the nation this year.
Gage Zanette followed in second (3:49.84) and
Tim Stevens in third (3:49.88) for the 31st and 32nd fastest times in the country this season.Â
Freshman
Hanna Tait took first in the women's 100m hurdles with a time of 14.59. Tait would also secure another gold medal with a victory in the high jump (1.53m).
The freshmen would continue to shine as they swept the podium in the women's 400m.
Blossom Omogor ran a 56.37 for first,
Adeline Wimer second (58.01), and
Lydia Nance third (59.51). All three ran new personal records.
Evan Henkel took third on the men's side, running a 50.78 in the 400m.
Olivia Martin's new personal record of 11.82 in the women's 100m marks the fourth fastest time in Idaho history as she scored a gold medal on Friday.
Camryn Crouch followed in second with a time of 11.96 and
Jana Willems took third (12.17).
Archer earned another first place finish running a 10.75 in the men's 100m and Hering finished third (10.77).
Shane Gard took third with a personal-record, 1:52.86 in the men's 800m.
The Vandal women would be all over the 400m hurdles finishing one through five.
Franziska Stoehr finished first at 1:01.05.
Prabhasha Wickramaarachchi crossed the tape next at 1:01.35 and
Lara Holzhauer took third (1:02.17). Belen Garcia-Arias came in fourth (1:03.93) and
Rhyan Madden fifth (1:04.48).
For the men, Davis would earn another gold with a 53.82 mark in the 400m hurdles.
Martin notched another first place finish in the women's 200m. The senior ran a 24.54 followed by the freshman Omogor in second with a personal-best, 24.96.
Watkins took second in the men's 200m with a time of 22.38.
Tyler Graff ran a personal-best 9:45.47 in the men's 3000m steeplechase for third place.
In the field,
Noah Culbertson would lead the Vandal men with a victory in the shot put, throwing 17.69m.
Reid Thomas took second throwing a personal-best 16.14m.
Weston Jeffries took third (15.33m) and
Gioele Tengattini fourth (15.30m).
Cash Jones took silver in the men's long jump with a mark of 6.76m followed by
Simone Fedel's 6.72m for third.
Junior
Dante Cox scored a gold medal in the men's high jump at a 1.97m mark.Â
Tengattini, the freshman, earned his first gold medal by way of a victory in the men's discus throw at 46.98m. Culbertson took third, throwing 46.38m.
The Vandals head to the Bay Area next week competing in the Stanford Invitational at Stanford University and the Mike Fanelli Track Classic hosted by San Francisco State. Both meets will run Friday and Saturday, March 29-30.
