MOSCOW, Idaho – Idaho track and field closed out their 2025 indoor regular season this weekend with three meets across the western United States. The biggest event of the weekend was
Blossom Omogor setting the 400 meter school record for the second time this season and the women's 4x400 meter relay team running the third fastest time in Vandal history.
Earlier this season at the UW Invite, Omogor placed her name into the record books for the first time by running a 54.87 in the 400. On Friday night in Albuquerque, she ran the distance over half a second faster and resetting the bar by finishing in 54.30, the fifth fastest time in the Big Sky this season.
"The highlight of the weekend was
Blossom Omogor setting the 400 school record again this season. She is running at an extremely high level right now and she was also part of the 4x4 (team) that nearly set the school record today," Idaho Director of Track and Field Tracy Hellman said Saturday night.
On Saturday, the women's 4x400 relay team of Omogor,
Maiya Brunoro,
Rhyan Madden, and
Franziska Stoehr ran a 3:41.99, a time just over four tenths short of the 12-year-old school record. It is the second fastest time by a Big Sky team this season.
At the Husky Classic in Seattle,
Pia Kircher raced to a personal best 9:42.83 in the 3K, the fastest time by a Vandal this season. The freshman's time is the 22nd best in the loaded Big Sky this season.
Cash Jones also found speed on the fast track at the University of Washington's Dempsey Indoor facility, as the junior sprinted to a 60 meter dash time of 6.84, the sixth fastest in Idaho history and the conference this season. Jones also achieved a personal best in the long jump, setting a mark of 7.11 meters, fourth longest in the Big Sky.
Zac Bright tore up the track in the 800, setting the fifth best time in UI history at 1:49.16. The time is the second fastest in the Big Sky with a week to go before the conference meet.
In the 60 hurdles,
Landon Peterson, the lone Vandal man to participate in the event this season, crossed the line in 8.30, good enough for 12th fastest in the Big Sky.
Out in the field events,
Shawn Twumasi Ampofo continued an impressive season in the triple jump with a leap of 15.28 meters, furthering his advantage at the top of the conference.
Tesse Kamps set a personal best shot put mark of 13.34 meters in New Mexico. The freshman now holds the 11th best shot put throw in the conference.
"It was a very busy weekend as we were in 3 different venues with our event groups. I felt that everyone competed very well and we continue to improve each meet as we inch closer to the conference championships," Coach Hellman said. "We now reset, rest up and get ready for the upcoming Big Sky Indoor Championships."
Idaho will take the next week off to prepare for the 2025 Big Sky Indoor Track and Field Championships in Flagstaff, Arizona on February 27, 28, and March 1.
