EUGENE, Oregon – The Idaho track and field team made their 2025 outdoor debut with a strong showing at the Oregon Preview, hosted by the University of Oregon.
"It was a great experience for our kids to compete at historic Hayward Field," Director of Track and Field Tracy Hellman said Saturday night. "I felt we competed very well and it (is) a good starting point for our groups."
Idaho's reigning Big Sky indoor champions wasted no time making an impact on the outdoor scene, as
Jesuye Doherty and
Shawn Twumasi Ampofo continued to assert their dominance taking the top spots in long jump and triple jump, respectively. Idaho's shot put standout,
Mia Sylvester, slotted in at the fifth position after a throw of 13.33 meters.
Other highlights from the weekend included:
- A strong performance in the men's shot put, where Noah Culbertson secured third place with a 16.97-meter throw, his second-longest mark of 2025.
- Luca Wagner (1:51.35) and Sebastjan Bas (1:55.16) both clocked personal bests in the men's 800, as Constanze Paoli set her personal record in the 1500 at 4:34.24.
With the first test of the season behind them, the Vandals will take a week to recharge before competing at the Whitworth Peace Meet on April 4 in Spokane, Washington.
