Hausmann Rallies on Back Nine

Sophie Hausmann is 1-over and tied for 26th after 18 holes

CLE ELUM, Wash. – Idaho senior Sophie Hausmann recovered from a slow start Monday, to record a 1-over 73 in the first round of the NCAA Women's Golf Cle Elum Regional. Hausmann was 3-over through two holes before rattling off 11 straight pars and back-to-back birdies on 14 and 15 to get back to 1-over. She closed the round with three more pars and finished the day tied for 26th.

Hausmann's first round started with a double bogey on the first hole, followed by a bogey on two, leaving her tied for 84th early on. As she bounced back with seven pars to make the turn at 3-over, Hausmann had risen 30 spots. Four more pars to start the back nine set her up well for back-to-back par fives on 14 and 15. Hausmann birdied both and was inside the top 30.

By the time the dust settled the Nottuln, Germany, native found herself in a familiar position. Hausmann is tied for 26th, two strokes outside of the top 15. She has finished in the top 25 of every tournament this season - and 24 of her last 26 overall.

With her 73 on Monday, Hausmann now owns five of the 15 lowest single-round scores recorded by a Vandal at an NCAA Regional. Last season she tied for 11th at the Madison Regional at 1-under (72-71-72), becoming the first golfer in school history to finish a regional tournament under par.

Hausmann begins her second round Tuesday, at 9:20 a.m. from the first hole. USC leads the tournament at 7-under as a team. The individual leader is Central Florida's Ana Laura Collado at 6-under. The top six teams after three rounds advance to the NCAA National Championships. The top three individuals not on an advancing team will also qualify for the national event.
