ARLINGTON, Texas – University of Idaho swimmer
Ginger Kiefer took home her first career conference weekly honor after posting three first-place finishes over the weekend, as announced by the league office on Wednesday.
Kiefer, a sophomore from Bend, Oregon, helped lead Idaho to a conference-opening victory over Northern Colorado, 167.5-132.5, behind a trio of top finishes.
She started the day with a first-place result in the 1000-yard freestyle, touching the wall in a time of 10:26.73. Her mark sits fourth fastest in the WAC this season.
Kiefer followed it up with a top finish in the 200-back, clocking in the second fastest time in the WAC with a 2:01.64. She wasn't done yet, saving her best for last with a conference-best time of 2:04.35 in the 200 IM to complete a sweep across her three individual events.
Someone who is no stranger to success, Kiefer completed the 2023-24 season with 15 first-place finishes, three school records and a bronze medal at the WAC Championships.
Kiefer and the Vandals travel to face their biggest test of the regular season with a matchup against Northern Arizona on Nov. 2.
