BOISE, Idaho – The University of Idaho swimming and diving team dominated the field, racking up 2,737 points, compared to 1,477 achieved by second-place Seattle U and 1,011 scored by Whitman College at the NW Collegiate Invite hosted at the Idaho Central Aquatic Center in downtown Boise. The Vandals picked up 11 first-place finishes, 59 season bests, 39 persona bests, 11 meet records and a school record.
The Vandals started off with a bang, picking three of the top four spots in the 200 yd freestyle relay, then grabbing the top four spots in the 500 yd freestyle, led by freshman
Holly Lenarz who finished with a time of 4:58.35. Sophomore
Ginger Kiefer set the pool record in the 500 yd freestyle with a time of 4:57.81.
Kiefer also set the pool record and personal best in the 200 yd individual medley with a time of 2:00.28, leading a contingent of Vandals who finished four of the top five spots in the event.
Madelyn Butler finished third in the 50 yd freestyle with a time of 23.64.
The Vandals took four of the top five spots in the 400 yd Medley relay, with Idaho's A team setting the meet and pool record with a time of 3:46.64.
Idaho took the top two spots in the 200 yd Medley Relay with the Idaho A team earning the meet and pool record time of 1:43.28.
Silvana Cabrera earned the top spot in the 100 yd butterfly with a time of 54.92, setting the pace for two other Vandals,
Grace Ruble and Madelyn Butler, who finished second and third.
Kiefer added an individual win in the 400 yd Individual Medley. Idaho swimmers took four of the top five spots in the 400 yd IM.
Isabelle Borke set a new pool record in the 200 yd freestyle with a time of 1:52.44 in the prelims before leading
Bethany Rahn and
Sienna Lefeber to an Idaho sweep of the podium.
In the 100 yd breaststroke,
Rylie Moxham and
Kaitlyn Hafer finished second and third, to lead Vandals to four of the top five finishes.
Ella Haskins set the pool record in the 100 yd backstroke with a time of 55.59.
Katy Foley finished second with a time of 56.06.
The Vandals won the 800 yd freestyle with a meet and pool record of 7:33.05.
Kiefer added a title in the 200 yd backstroke with a time of 1:57.69, again setting the meet and pool record.
Katy Foley grabbed a third-place finish in the same event.
Haskins and Butler finished first and second in the 100 yd freestyle. Haskins finished with a time of 50.74.
Natalie Charles finished second in the 200 yd breaststroke with a time of 2:18.36, leading a group of three Vandals who finished second through fifth.
Cabrera finished first in the 200 yd butterfly, with
Taylor Wassel finishing second and Gracie Rubble finishing third.
The Vandal 400 yd freestyle relay A team took home the title and the meet and pool record and the Idaho B team earned a third-place finish.
The Vandals closed out the meet by dominating the 1,650 yd freestyle, taking home the top five spots led by Lenarz who finished with a time of 17:14.94.
Marie Mason was second with a time of 17:29.68 and
Ava Langston grabbed a third-place finish with a time of 17:47.21.
LUMBERJACK DIVING INVITATIONAL
Lauren Wierschke finished 14th in the 1M competition and 16th in the platform event while
Saige Anderson finished 17th and
Abigail Pink finished 25th in the Platform.
Wierschke tallied a score of 483.65 in the1M. She added a score of 295.75 in the platform.
Anderson earned a score of 279.60 in the platform while Pink failed to advance to the final and finished with a score of 112.35.
