JOHNS CREEK, Ga. – Laura Caamaño finished seventh and the Idaho women's golf team closed out play at the Georgia State Invitational with an eighth-place finish Tuesday at Rivermont Golf Club, posting a three-round total of 909 (306-296-307) in a competitive 14-team field.
The Vandals showed resilience throughout the tournament, highlighted by a strong second round in which they fired a 296, to climb the leaderboard.
"There were no easy shots this week," head coach
Julia Goodson said. "There are a lot of hills and tough greens. It was a grind from start to finish. Our team fought for every shot, and everyone had some great moments! I'm especially proud of Laura who stayed confident, played fearlessly and delivered every round! After a strong finish last year on this same course, she followed it up with a top 10 this year!"
Leading the way for Idaho was Caamaño, who delivered a steady and consistent performance across all three rounds. She carded rounds of 73-73-73 to finish at 3-over-par 219, earning a tie for seventh place individually. It is her second career top-10 finish, the first was a fourth-place finish in the same tournament last year.
Ella Kozak added a notable highlight for Idaho with a second-round 70, the team's lowest round of the event. She finished tied for 44th at 230 (+14) after rounds of 78-70-82.
Boram Jung followed closely, tying for 51st at 233 (+17), while
Diya Brar shot 235 (+19) to finish in a tie for 57th.
Zoe Newell rounded out the scoring for Idaho, placing tied for 63rd at 238 (+22).
Georgia State captured the team title with an 883 (-1), narrowly edging Emory (886) and Bowling Green (890). Individually, Tennessee's Sophie Christopher, competing as an individual, claimed medalist honors at 5-under 211.
Despite a tough final round, Idaho's balanced scoring and Caamano's top-10 finish underscored a solid showing against a strong field as the Vandals continue their spring season. Idaho plays Boise State in a dual this meet in Boise.
