Clevenger Completes Staff with Mapson, Randall

Regular season begins on Aug. 17

MOSCOW, Idaho – Idaho soccer head coach, Jeremy Clevenger, had a lot to worry about in his first few weeks before fall training began.  But despite the quick turnaround, Clevenger was able to put together an exceptional staff, bringing on Sean Mapson and Nicole Randall.

"I think we have a great staff in place," Clevenger said.  "I think we all complement each other, and bring something different.  I think we have a very well-rounded staff."

Sean Mapson joins the team after spending the last two seasons as the head coach at Mississippi Valley State.  There, Mapson led the Devilettes to a pair of SWAC Tournaments, placed three on All-SWAC teams and coached Laadi Issaka, the Co-Offensive Player of the Year in 2016.

"Sean brings a lot," said Clevenger.  "He's a former head coach, he's organized and he really sees the game well tactically.  And he's also a great goalkeeper coach as well.

"Sean, I actually didn't know.   The coaching world is small and a friend told me that if I was looking at someone I should be looking at Sean.  And it was nice, because Sean actually reached out to me as well to say he was interested in the position.  Things fell in line and he was the right pick for us."

Nicole Randall rounds out the staff, joining the Vandals after two seasons with Allen Community College in Kansas.  Prior to that, Randall spent three seasons on staff at Fort Hays State, her Alma Mater.  A former student-athlete under Clevenger, Randall has become an exceptional coach in her own right over the past five seasons.

"Nicole has a great mind for the game," Clevenger said.  "She has a strong technical background and really does a great job of creating some fun, technical and challenging drills.

"I actually knew Nicole.  I coached her in the past.  I've known her for a while and kind of followed her career for the last few years and just seen her develop as a coach."

The Vandals get their exhibition season started tomorrow, taking on Utah in Salt Lake City at 6 p.m. Pacific.  The game will be streamed live on the Pac-12 Network.
