High School: Garris was a Washingon 2A state champion in 2009 for Washington High School. She threw the discus 124-10 to take the title at the state meet, and also finished as the runner-up in the shot put at 39-1.25 and took ninth in the javelin with a throw of 120-10. She had personal bests of 40-11 in the shot put, 137-11 in the discus and 122-3 in the javelin. As a junior, she took fifth at the 2A state meet in the discus, sixth in the javelin and 11th in the shot put. She also won three West Central District titles in the discus and two more in the javelin.

Personal: She is the daughter of Lori Reid. Her intended major at Idaho is Dietetics.
