Idaho women’s cross country spent less than a decade in the Western Athletic Conference, and dominated from start to finish. In nine seasons, the Vandals won six conference championships. The program thrived, closing its time in the conference with four straight championships, but it all started with Allix Lee-Painter just a few years before.
Lee-Painter was a key member of Idaho’s early WAC teams, helping Idaho to a pair of team conference championships in 2005 and 2007. Individually, she improved from year to year, winning the WAC Cross Country Championship in her final season in 2008.
Although she was done with cross country, Lee-Painter was just getting started on the track. She had a breakout season in 2009, winning the indoor 5k and taking home the WAC Indoor Championships Outstanding Track Performer Award.
Her final season of outdoor track came in 2010, and it was well worth the wait. Lee-Painter was nothing short of incredible at the WAC Outdoor Championships, winning the 3000-meter steeplechase, the 5k and the 10k to take home the 2010 WAC Outdoor Championships Outstanding Track Performer and High Point Awards.
Lee-Painter’s dominance carried over into the classroom. She is one of five Vandals in school history, across all sports, to twice earn Academic All-American honors. Lee-Painter also earned the 2010 Stan Bates Award, given annually to the WAC’s top male and female scholar-athlete.
