Jim Prestel was a standout two-sport athlete for Idaho from 1955-59. He played offensive and defensive tackle for the Vandal football team from 1955-59 and played in the post for the basketball team from 1955-60. He earned the basketball team’s Jay Gano Award as the most inspirational player as voted by his teammates. He helped the Vandal basketball team put together a 47-40 overall record and led the football team to a 9-18-1 record. He was drafted in 1958 by the Cleveland Browns in the sixth round and joined the team in 1960 to start of an eight-season NFL career. He played for the Browns, Vikings, Giants and Redskins.
