REMEMBERING GARY

Gary Baker was an All-American swimmer for the University of Idaho. He earned an All-America certificate in the 200-meter individual medley at the 1963 NCAA Championships to start off his career, then helped deliver the team’s first Big Sky Conference title just one year later. In 1964, Baker had a fantastic weekend in the pool at the Big Sky Championships, as he took home titles in the 200-meter and 400-meter individual medleys, then brought home the 200-meter butterfly crown. All three races were Idaho school record and Big Sky Conference record times. Baker was a three-event qualifier at the 1964 NCAA Championships, where he competed in the 100-meter and 200-meter butterfly and the 200-meter individual medley.
