Sverre Kongsgaard was one of the world’s best ski-jumpers during and after his time at Idaho. He led the Vandal men to three NCAA Championship appearances in skiing from 1946-48 with finishes as high as third nationally. Kongsgaard was regularly Idaho’s top finisher with his soaring jumps. Just one year after graduating from Idaho, Kongsgaard jumped farther than anyone ever had outside of Europe. At a ski-jumping meet on Olympian Hill at Snoqualmie Pass, Wash., he shot out over the hill and soared 290 feet – a North American record at the time and the best jump outside of Europe ever.
