John Webster was a key member of Idaho’s NCAA champion 1940 boxing squad. Fighting in the 175-pound division, Webster won his own individual title at the 1940 NCAA Championships. He was also a member of the Idaho squad that traveled to Louisiana to take on LSU in a dual meet before a packed house. Webster and the Vandal men prevailed and brought home the Sugar Bowl title. Eager to do anything he could to help the Idaho men win, Webster fought not only at his own division, but also moved up for dual meets to the heavyweight division against fighters who outweighed him by 25-30 pounds to give Idaho more team points.
