Dick Foster was a top lineman for the Vandal football squad from 1954-56. As a tackle on the 1956 squad, Foster helped the team to a 4-5 overall record which includes victories over Utah, Utah State, Fresno State and Montana. A team captain, Foster anchored the Vandal line that bullied opponents and averaged 135.5 yards per game on the ground and 116.1 more through the air. His work in the trenches was so impressive that he earned a spot in the East-West Shrine Game at the end of the 1956 season and also was chosen Outstanding Vandal Athlete of the Year by the Moscow Daily Idahonian. After his time at Idaho, he was drafted by the NFL’s Washington Redskins in the 11th round of the 1957 draft, but went on to play in the Canadian Football League with the British Columbia Lions.
