Leonard ‘Len’ Lawr made waves in his very first season as an Idaho swimmer. As a freshman in 1956, Lawr led the Vandal frosh team to an undefeated record and broke the school record in the 440-yard freestyle. In 1957, he led the Vandal swimmers to their best record in years and earned a spot on the Pacific Coast Conference All-Northern Division team. That year, his teammates also voted him the Outstanding Vandal Swimmer and Most Inspirational Swimmer. He left the school as the Idaho record holder in the 100-meter freestyle with a best time of 54.11.
